In about two days starting on Aug 1, Thailand's first female prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, will give her final statement to the Supreme Court for Holders of Political Positions. The court will rule on the case on Aug 25 and, if Ms Yingluck is found guilty, she could face up to 10 years in prison. Ms Yingluck has remained adamant that she will not abscond. But what the government's strategists are worried about is the fact that Ms Yingluck could become the face of resistance and a heroine. Could a guilty verdict for Ms Yingluck be the trigger that lets the steam out of the pot that has been boiling with resentment for more than three years?
